Techniques / How-To's
Here you will find tips, recipes, and strategies (of tried and true authentic methods) on all types of magickal traditions. This will be what I call, the "best way", of doing something in spiritual work or at least, how I like to do it. So, if you're wondering how to make a mojo/spirit bag, or what's good for a healing bath, this is the place to come back often; as I will be updating this frequently.

How To Charge & Consecrate An Amulet, Talisman, or Charm: |
First determine what you are charging and stick with that terminology throughout the ritual. A charm is worn to attract good luck; an amulet protects you from danger & evil; and a talisman is used to attract a desire or a magickal property to its owner. When? You can do this whenever you choose, when needed. However, the most optimal time to charge or consecrate your amulet is during a waning moon phase (to repel evil and negative energy); talismans and charms should be performed during a waxing moon phase (to draw to you what you desire). Methods: There are many different methods to charge or consecrate your magickal items. None are wrong or right, it just depends on the culture or tradition you are using. Items needed: You will need an item to represent each of the elements, and be mindful of your intent. Fire – A candle flame (dress a candle with the appropriate color and herbs/oils for your intent). Water – Full Moon water, rain water, holy water, ocean water, or river water. Air – An incense appropriate to your concern. Earth - Salt, dirt (from crossroads, banks, your job, or grave yard), or crystals/stones. Ritual to perform: You may say consecrate or charge. Pass the item through a candle flame quickly and say "I charge you with the element of Fire". Then sprinkle the item with a tiny bit of water and say "I charge you with the element of Water". Then pass the item through the smoke of incense, and say "I charge you with the element of Air". Sprinkle the item with salt and say "I charge you with the element of the Earth". You can also add your dirt or place a crystal geared with the same properties on top of the item (such as a rose quartz for love, or lodestone w/magnetic sand or pyrite for money), until your candle is finished burning all the way down. Then say out loud, "I charge this item in the name of the God & Goddess (or any Deity / Orishas / Loas / Saints that you wish to work with), I charge this item by the virtues of the Sun, Moon, and Stars (or the planet that governs your talisman or amulet). I charge this item by the Elemental powers of the Earth, Air, Fire and Water for myself (your name) for the purpose of (state you specific intention here with energy and emotion), I now declare this item all-empowered with the energies of the Universe in which I have invoked. And so it is!" I would then meditate on my intent of the Amulet, Talisman, or Charm and visualize the power and energy and see the desires flowing inward until the candle has burned down, or at least 15 minutes. For the first 7 days wear your Talisman/Amulet/Charm close to your body/skin (in your pocket, bra, purse, or wallet), you can even sleep with it under your pillow or mattress. Be sure to not damage it. Remember to then pray with it, chant affirmations, and burn candles near or on top of it frequently related to the purpose of the Talisman/Amulet/Charm only. |

Office / Work Cubicle - spray from the farthest point from the entrance counter clockwise to the entrance, until you've completely smudged the area. Remember to pray your intention or recite a prayer that you feel comfortable with according to your own spiritual background. I like to say, "I repel and rebuke all evil and negativity, may goodness follow me all the days of my life, positive energy flows toward me and surrounds me from this moment on, and so it is!" Remember to breathe deeply with intention, on your exhale, visualize all darkness leaving you and the area, and while inhaling visualize bright white light surrounding you and the area. Whichever way the spirit leads you to smudge - is good. This is my personal ritual: I light a white candle to my angels and spirit guides - dressed with sage oil, angel oil, Psalms oil, or Frankincense and Myrrh oil. Van Van oil is good too. I sit this in the main room of the house. I go through each room starting from the back of the house working my way to the front door - with all doors and windows closed. I start at the top floor to the lowest floor in the home. I say the lords pray, the 91st Psalms, or my own prayer - whichever - feels best. I pray while spraying or smudging with herbs. I open a few windows on each floor about an hour later to let all negativity out. After cleansing, I like to bring in positive energy by spraying or smudging with peaceful and abundant energy with my Floral Lavender Spray, or Florida Water. When I don't have time to do both (Sage 1st, Floral Lavender 2nd) - I only use the Sacred Blend Spray. This has both combined with added ingredients – and is super powerful! I hope this helps. Also, whenever there is tension, unpleasantness, or negativity at random - just spray that room you're in. The above ritual is what I do about 1 or 2 times per month. I use anytime - without the ritual - as needed. I also use to cleanse my spiritual tools and crystals. Note: Basil is said to promote peace and protection. It's good to sprinkle just a little in the 4 corners of each room. Once done a complete smudging of your home and/or office. To smudge yourself (cleanse your aura): 1) White Sage or Sacred Blend: Start above the head and work your way down toward the feet; to remove dark or negative energy. 2) Sacred Blend or Floral Lavender: Start from the feet and work your way up toward your head; to bring in light and positive energy. Again, you must visualize the intent (#1 darkness leaving / #2 bright light coming up surrounding you), feel the energy removed or drawn in, and speak firmly your intention. Most people smudge weekly to maintain a healthy aura and environment. Smudge as needed: during crisis, arguments, sickness, and especially when entering a new home, bringing home a new baby, weddings, funerals, etc. |
How to Use Self-Igniting Powdered Incense
Be sure to use an incense burner or any fire-proof dish, such as an ashtray, pottery, metal dish, etc. You can also line a small tray or dish with foil; and fill it about 1” deep of salt, sand, or rice ash to insulate it and keep it from getting too hot.
Use about a tablespoon of the powdered incense at a time, and place in the center of your dish. Take your fingers and tightly pinch and pack it into a triangle or cone shape. Next, you just take a match or lighter and apply fire to the top and sides of the mound of incense you’ve shaped. Do not blow it, just wait, and the flame will slowly fade out and smolder. It will continue to give off a fragrant smoke until it has burned completely to the bottom of the triangle or cone. Repeat as desired.
Note: A spiritual way to use the incense when performing a prayer or ritual, is to write a petition appropriate to the type of incense you’re using (cross it with your name or targets name) on parchment paper or a piece of brown paper bag (about 3” x 3”), add a tablespoon of incense into the center of the paper and roll toward you to draw things, roll away from you to repel things. Place into your incense burner, and light the tip on fire. When I want to burn candles with a lot of energy, I dress with spiritual oil and roll the candle into the powdered incense. Wonderful way to enhance your magick!
Please be sure to burn safely and do not leave unattended.
